Brief Description
This course is aimed at anyone who would like to know more about Baroque and Rococo art between approx.1600-1775. It will be an introduction to this period starting with the influences upon it. The course will focus essentially upon painting and sculpture. We will look at how the work evolved during this period in terms of colour, chiaroscuro, and elaborate decoration. Artists including, Caravaggio, Gentileschi, Rubens, Vermeer and more will be studied each week so that students can gain an insight into how and why they were seen to be so important during this fast-developing era.

You will learn through a series of power point presentations, worksheets, video clips, quizzes and lively class discussions.

Trip to the National Gallery: Zurbarán exhibition.
£20 (off-peak, Sunday-Thursday) To be booked individually by students. The Tutor will discuss the details in more detail during the first week of the course.
